• COULD you explain how the author of Beyond the Balfour Declaration, and the reviewer (Zion of the times, May 18), failed to notice that, 12 years before the declaration, it was Arthur Balfour who piloted the Aliens Bill through the Lords / parliament to stop Jews coming to Britain (the first anti-immigration laws in Britain, I believe)?

Does this show any consistency in the mind of Balfour or the concern / empathy it is claimed he had, for Jewish suffering in Europe or Russia?
