BARTENDERS are among 12,000 people who have signed a petition against the eviction of one of Covent Garden’s oldest music venues.

The bartenders compete each year in the “Flair” championships at the Roadhouse. The competition – which sees contestants performing stunts while mixing cocktails – is believed to be the longest running and most prestigious event of its kind in the world.

Richard Wills, who has signed the petition, recalled: “I remember watching Neil Lowrey bouncing tins off the old helicopter above the stage.”

Landowner Capco have submitted a planning application to develop the downstairs of the Jubilee Hall building that Roadhouse owner Brian Stein says threatens his business with eviction.

A spokeswoman for Capco said: “The lease relating to The Roadhouse nightclub has expired and we plan to redevelop the unit, significantly improving the space, including providing disabled access.”
