Election promises should be deemed a ‘product’…

• ELECTION promises should be deemed to be a “product” and somehow subject to normal consumer legislation, I have come to think.
Politicians believe that they can throw any old nonsense into the air and there will be no comeback. If they were required to provide proof or justification with serious consequences, even at a later date, then they might temper their more outlandish boasts.
Electors can, of course, change their vote. With money and land in limited supply, who would vote for politicians who claim that they will, if elected, build in their first term one-and-a-half-million new homes?
