• ANYBODY who thought that once the election was over, the truth would somehow emerge – bruised but undaunted – will have been disappointed by this week’s shenanigans.

Labour says they’ve discovered a multi-billion-pound black hole in our economy, while the Conservatives say the country’s finances were open for all to see and Labour is being found out having made false promises to win votes.

Of course, the Tories’ reputation as liars has been much bolstered by its 14 years in government, but Labour have been shifty too.

How about a cross-party agreement to lay off the porkies which both parties must surely recognise as the reason why so few people voted on July 4?

And that’s a dangerous game.

John Lennon’s plea Gimme Some Truth from more than half-a-century ago couldn’t be more appropriate.

“I’ve had enough of reading things

“By neurotic, psychotic, pig-headed politicians.”

Amen to that!
