Police say Mohanna Abdhou and her friends were approached by men on bicycles, before she was shot

A FAMILY has been left “heartbroken” after a young woman was shot dead near a children’s playground in Queen’s Park.

Twenty-year-old Mohanna Abdhou, known to friends and family as Montana, died from a single gunshot wound when a man on a bike fired a gun at friends. Her “devastated” family have called for answers as to why their “loving” and “beautiful” daughter, sister and friend was killed.

According to the police, Ms Abdhou had been with friends in Malvern Road, near Dickens House enjoying the warm weather, when they were approached by two men on bicycles with their faces covered at around 9pm. One of the men shot a gun at the group, before they made off along Malvern Road towards Shirland Road, police said

In a statement, her family said today: “We are truly saddened, heartbroken and still in complete shock that we have lost a beautiful and caring soul. No words can truly express our feelings towards this situation.

“She was a loving daughter, sister and friend. She was loved by everyone and her warmth and kindness will be remembered fondly.”

They added: “The thought that anyone can go out there and murder an innocent person is truly heart breaking and we wish that no other family ever goes through such distress. She will always be in our minds and in our hearts.

“Our family need answers as to what happened to our beloved Montana; someone must know something, or have suspicions about someone being involved. I ask them to search their hearts and tell the police what they know.”

Police investigating the “cowardly attack” believe a number of shots were aimed at the group of female friends. They have urged anyone with information to come forward.

The officer leading the police investigation, DCI Andy Partridge, said: “It was still daylight when this attack took place and the location is very near a children’s playground. This was a cowardly attack on a young woman who was out enjoying the warm weather in the company of her friends.

“The two suspects have both been described as medium build, dressed all in dark clothing and having their faces covered to hide their identities; this fact alone would have made them stand out on such a warm evening. If you remember anything, no matter how small please do not hesitate in contacting us immediately.”

He added: “Montana’s family are devastated by her senseless killing, and I and my team are committed to finding those responsible and the reasons behind it.

“The local community remains shocked by this terrible event and we have spoken with a number of witnesses. I still believe the public can help further and would appeal for anyone who knows who was responsible for the murder of this young woman to come forward and tell us.”
