Give cyclists number plates or something else to ID them

Friday, 26th May 2017

• THE only realistic solution to the problem of inconsiderate and aggressive cyclists is to introduce number plates.

The bicycle is, after all, a vehicle just like other vehicles and ought, therefore, to be numbered like them.

Another suggestion is that cyclists should be required by law to wear fluorescent sashes around their bodies or arms. These could display identifications that could be monitored by the police.

Strips of this kind are already in use in nurseries, schools, swimming baths and conference centres and nobody seems to have found them particularly objectionable.
