Former MP Mark Field

THERE may not have been midnight queues outside bookshops, but Harrington hears one or two Tories were rushing to grab a copy of former Two Cities MP Mark Field’s new tome.

We wait to see how far he has lifted the lid on the politics in his own patch in The End Of An Era; The Decline and Fall of The Tory Party, which hit the shelves on Wednesday.

Mr Field (not yet a “Sir” or a Lord, but surely one day…) after all sat in the Commons for 25 years.

He no doubt knows all the secrets of our local Tory association, but those treated to a first look at his memoir have raced straight to the bit about his relations with Liz Truss – paragraphs described as a “kiss and tell”.
