Signs appear on some bars in the West End – but not all staff are following the script

IF we’re honest, most of us would probably admit we spend too much too time on our phones.

Even at your Christmas party, your colleagues will be distracted from your enthralling conversation by having to check their screens for something every two seconds.

So the sentiment of signs appearing on pub counters in some back streets in the West End announcing that a bar is a place of a “digital detox” has a charming side.

But as one of Harrington’s readers points out, with an accompanying snap, that message will only get through if the bartenders also follow the same script.

This cheeky photo comes from a quiet moment in a pub just a little north of Oxford Street. I won’t say which, as I hear it’s a lovely place with tasty ales.

Harrington would be a hypocrite if I told you to spend less time staring at a screen but the idea was a nice one.
