Sadie Corré in Rocky Horror
EVER since we started this part of the column many weeks ago, I’ve wanted to use it to timewarp back and remind everyone about the late Sadie Corré, who everyone agrees was a character.
While you may not remember the name, she had a cult following for her career as an actor including playing one of the fuzzy-faced ewoks in the Star Wars movie Return of the Jedi. She wasn’t going to let her height – 4ft 1in – get in the way of a life in entertainment.
Sadie, who lived in the Russell Court buildings in Russell Square for 50 years, also starred in the Rocky Horror Picture Show and as Womble – and people who saw them say they will always remember her panto turns at the London Palladium.

She ignored mean comments and overcame the prejudice that sometimes came with her size.
Amid the tributes after her death – at 91 – in 2009, Patricia Quinn, who you may recall was Magenta in Rocky Horror, told me: “I recall the first day I saw Sadie. They were all rehearsing the Timewarp. There was Sadie, the smallest lady in the group and she was breathtaking, unbelievable, and always such a joy to be with.”
She used to appear at the Rocky Horror conventions, where the devotees always wanted selfies, but she was never a show-off.
To many she was just as much “Sadie from Russell Square”, albeit rarely without a smile or a song.
