JD WETHERSPOON have fought planning rejections tooth and nail and now finally have the go-ahead to open a brand new bar right next to Charing Cross station.

Yep, Thursday night watery curry club and a lager is coming to the Strand.

For fans of London’s cute back-street pubs, like Harrington has revealed himself to be many times in this diary, it may seem a rather deflating addition to the mix. There are indeed some corking traditional bars around Charing Cross to enjoy.

But ’Spoons is what it is – and with all of the nice boozers on a steam train to a day when a pint will surely very soon cost a tenner – it’s hard to knock anybody who needs a cheaper stop.
