Harrington: Turn left to go back to the 60s

Friday, 14th October 2022

AN irate driver who has presumably recently picked up a penalty for breaking the rules in Marylebone has been bombarding TfL with questions about one particular junction.

Under the Freedom of Information Act, the aggrieved questioner demands to know – among many details – how many fines have been issued for turning left into Marylebone High Street from Marylebone Road.

The paperwork shows they also asked when the heck (ok, not in those words) this manoeuvre was made illegal.

In response, someone at TfL must have really enjoyed tying out the reply to this one: “This left turn has been banned since… September 1967.”
