BBC and Channel 5 current affairs man Jeremy Vine has a hot story. He tweeted this week, wait for it, that Oxford Street has become overrun with candy shops.

To illustrate this, he even attached several photos of the repetitive sweet stores which now line the “nation’s High Street”.

Harrington hates to break it to Jez, but that’s hardly a newsflash – in fact he may well win a prize for being the millionth tweeter to have made this observation.

The debate has raged on for yonks. The question is, can Oxford Street ever get its prestige back?
