High quality Chinese library service will continue at Charing Cross
Friday, 24th March 2017
• THE Chinese library service is important part of Charing Cross Library.
Recently my fellow councillors and I have heard some concerns from our constituents about whether the service will continue following the recent departure of a librarian who has been co-ordinating the service.
I am very happy to confirm that the Chinese library service will continue to provide the same high quality service at Charing Cross.
The council will continue to ensure staff with Chinese language skills are employed at the site and there will be no reductions to the Chinese language resources available.
The library is used by different community organisations which hold events to inform and promote a vast array of cultures. We aim for events to be as open as possible, so our guidance for Chinese art shows is to include captions in both English and Chinese languages (Library should be for us all, March 17).
We’re proud of the deep links Charing Cross Library have forged with the Chinese community over many decades.
We are grateful to Ms Li for her significant work over the last eight years in the Chinese library service and wish her well as she moves on to new challenges.
The library service is keen to develop and strengthen these important links over the years ahead.
Across Westminster, the council is making some changes to its library service to deliver budget savings and shape the service to the future needs of all Westminster residents. We are committed to no library closures and maintaining opening hours.
At Charing Cross we will work to ensure the long-standing links with the Chinese community are strengthened and to provide services that meet their needs, now and in the future.
