It’s boom time for Tory ministers and donors, austerity for the rest of us

• ANOTHER disastrous week for the government, and it’s just the first of the year.

It has been reported that the government has wasted billions of pounds of taxpayers’ money on failed projects, are spending millions on a new yacht, and the foreign secretary agreed to spend thousands on a meal at a private club belonging to a Conservative donor.

Given the same government also took the £20 per week uplift in universal credit away from hard-pressed families struggling with soaring inflation, and have dragged their heels on delivering a holiday hunger scheme for poorer children, one has to ask why it’s boom time for Conservative ministers and donors but austerity for the rest of us?
