It’s difficult to see how the EU could have been ‘pre-planned’

• YET again Mark Newberry is peddling myths about the European Union: “…decades of stealthy deceit, dissembling and want of truth that led us from Common Market to a politically pre-planned European Union”, (President Trump is welcome, Letters, February 10).
It’s difficult to see how the EU can have been “pre-planned” given the fact that we have always been represented on the Council of Ministers, in the European Parliament, and in all EU institutions. It may well be the case that
Mr Newberry voted for one of our Members of the European Parliament.
In the same issue Jenny Jordan (Get over it) writes that “…the people voted to leave the European Union”.
Well, 51.9 per cent against 48.1 per cent on a turnout of 72.21 per cent is hardly an overwhelming mandate.
And a mandate for what exactly – £350million more per week for the National Health Service?
