‘We should be able to report offenders to the police whenever such riders cause us pain or distress’

• IT is truly ironic that we can now get clear pictures of remote galaxies yet cannot capture the faces of perpetrators on CCTV footage.

I would take this a step further and want to know about motorbike number plates so poorly-sited, damaged, dirty or tiny as to be unreadable.

Many are sported by youths speeding around on motorbikes with L-plates, some of them working as delivery riders. We also need to ask why e-scooters don’t also have legible number plates.

We should be able to report offenders to the police whenever such riders cause us pain or distress. We constantly learn of collisions between pavement riders and pedestrians.

Only last week there was one between an e-scooter rider and a little girl, causing her concussion and breaking her leg. It is shocking that even children are nowadays unsafe on the pavements, the natural right of way for pedestrians.
