Labour: ‘Lib Dem leaflets are misleading’

LABOUR has lodged a complaint with the Electoral Commission and Liberal Democrat head office over the party’s election literature statements.
The Cities of London and Westminster Labour group said the constituency had been snowed under with “misleading” leaflets ahead of the December 12 election.
They included “notorious bar charts with dubious claims of being the only party able to defeat the Conservative candidate”, said the Labour group, which is making the same argument about itself.
Candidate Gordon Nardell said: “The Tories used to romp home in this seat. But things changed in 2017 when Labour slashed the Tory majority and made the seat marginal. The Lib Dems have always come a poor third here. They would need an extra 14,000 votes to take this seat. That isn’t going to happen. Every vote for the Lib Dems is one less vote for the only party who can win this seat from the Tories. The Lib Dems will never be forgiven if they hand the seat to a Tory MP who will support Boris Johnson’s disastrous hard Brexit.”
A Lib Dem statement said: “Every complaint about a Lib Dem leaflet shows that Labour and the Tories are in denial about the fact that things have changed massively since 2017.
“Since then, the Lib Dem national share of the vote has more than doubled, and we finished ahead of both Labour and the Tories in the European elections. We’ve had tens of thousands of new members and seven new MPs join us as the strongest remain party.”
