Swedish national died in hospital from head injuries

POLICE have released images of three men that they believe can help them piece together how and why a middle-aged man was beaten to death in a Marylebone street.

Guzman Shannan, 49, was found by police in Henrietta Place when they were called to reports of a fight in the early hours of Saturday July 29.

They found Mr Shannan, a Swedish national, had been assaulted and was suffering from serious head injuries. Paramedics found he was in a critical condition and he was taken to hospital, where he died four days later.

Police said that the three men had spent the evening in a bar in Marylebone Lane and are believed to have been in the area when Mr Shannan was attacked. A 21-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter.

Detective Constable Neil Goodwin, of the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: “We are keen to hear from the three men who were in a bar on the night that Guzman was killed.

“It is possible that they have information that will help us piece together the events of that night to establish what led to a man losing his life. I would urge them to contact the incident room. I would also like to hear from anyone else who has information but who is yet to speak with officers.”

A post-mortem examination held at St George’s Hospital mortuary on Tuesday August 8 gave cause of death as a head injury.

Any witnesses or anyone with information should contact the Homicide and Major Crime Command on their incident room number of 020 8721 4205 or if you wish to remain anonymous please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
