CCTV footage shows Alan Alencar with police officers just moments after the shocking attack

A MAN who was pushed onto the tube tracks at Bayswater station survived by rolling into a ball as a train passed over him.

Alain Lesjongard suffered broken bones in his legs and back in the miraculous escape.

The 55-year-old’s survival story was told to the Old Bailey as his attacker, Alan Alencar, was handed a hospital order which will see him held at a psychiatric hospital indefinitely.

Mr Alencar, 29, who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, had pleaded guilty to attempted murder before his sentencing on Tuesday. He had told arresting officers: “First time for everything. I won’t do that again.”

CCTV had shown him shoving Mr Lesjongard, but Mr Alencar said he could not remember the incident last September.

Mr Alencar apologised through his lawyers.

Detective Inspector Ian Trantum said: “Without any provocation, Alencar approached his victim and pushed him violently onto the tracks. It was a shocking display of senseless violence, which could have killed his victim. Miraculously the victim survived the incident but sustained a serious injury.

There is no doubt this could have been much worse.”

He added: “After pushing his victim onto the tracks, Alencar then loitered around the station concourse, and calmly stood in the ticket hall as if nothing had happened. Officers were very quickly on the scene where members of staff identified him as the pusher. He was arrested.”

Siwan Hayward, Transport for London’s head of transport policing, said: “This attack was truly shocking and dangerous and we have worked with the police to investigate this case. Such incidents are very rare and we always support the appropriate action to protect our customers and staff.”
