People using Russell and Bloomsbury squares should take their lunchtime litter away with them

Litter piles up on the Heath
• I MUST respond to your report (Disgust at sun lovers’ mess, June 1) concerning litter from the crowds on Hampstead Heath.
Overflowing bins do not only affect visitors to the Heath. I am appalled at the way, on sunny days, that the lunchtime users of the two garden squares near me (Russell Square and Bloomsbury Square) leave their mess cascading out of the bins; and that which is not squeezed into the bins, left beside the bins and on the grass.
I do not understand why lunchtime users cannot take their rubbish back to their place of work and dispose of it there when the bins are over-full. This cannot be a pleasant task for the men from Veolia who come to clear up – who, I must say, do an excellent job in difficult circumstances.
