A PLAQUE celebrating a famous women’s boutique was unveiled by the business’s founder yesterday (Thursday).

The Lady Jane boutique was the first womens-wear shop to open in Carnaby Street at a time – 1966 – when it was renowned as a menswear-only destination.

Co-owner Henry Moss said the shop caused a stir by putting live models in the windows who changed into different outfits.

Mr Moss, 86, said: “We put a notice in the window saying ‘live model show’. It went off with such a bang that the street was mobbed with people – you couldn’t walk down it.

“Even the buses on Oxford Street couldn’t get through because of the traffic.”

The family of Harry Fox, the other owner of the store, who has died, also attended the event.
