Residents face four months of mains disruption

PIMLICO residents are steeling themselves for four months of gas mains pipes replacement work, one year after 200 residents were evacuated for days because of a leak.

The old mains pipes in Lupus Street, Gloucester Street and Churton Street are being replaced by contractor Cadent until at least April.

Temporary road closures, bus diversions and parking bay suspensions will be in place, but throughout the project shops and businesses will be open as usual and residents will be able to access all homes at all times.

Cadent engineering manager Stuart Donaldson said: “We’ve carefully planned this work in close discussion with Westminster Council and TfL (Transport for London).

“We’ll keep on working closely with them to ensure the project is delivered with as little disruption as possible.”

In January last year a 50-metre cordon was put in place around Horseferry Road after a massive gas leak was discovered.

The council set up a shelter for those displaced at a nearby sports centre with British Red Cross members on hand to help.

Anyone with questions about the project can call the community relations team on 0800 389 8261.
