A £500,000 reward has been staked for information that leads to the conviction of a thief and return of jewels stolen in a daring heist on a social media influencer’s mega mansion.
The burglar at Shafira and Sishou Huang’s home in St John’s Wood has been described as a “lone wolf” and compared to “Spider-Man” by a family spokesman.
More than £10million of jewellery was taken in less than half an hour from the 10-bed house in Avenue Road on December 7. The haul of gems included top-of-the-range diamond rings, necklaces and bracelets. And around £150,000 of Hermes Crocodile Kelly handbags and around £15,000 in cash.
Several housekeeping staff were in the mansion when the man, in his late 20s or early 30s, is believed to have made his way inside using a ladder from a house next door that is being renovated.
CCTV images given to police include a footprint, believed to be the burglar’s, and also images of him masked up with a hoodie and baseball cap.
Influencer Ms Huang’s Instagram has posted several pictures of her designer handbags and jewellery during fashion shows from around the world.
Detective Constable Paulo Roberts from the Central North basic command unit, who is investigating, said: “This is a brazen offence, where the suspect has entered the property while armed with an unknown weapon and violated the sanctuary of the victims’ home.
“The suspect has stolen £10.4million worth of jewellery, much of which is sentimental and unique in its design, and therefore easily identifiable.”
The family’s spokesman Csaba Virag has made a series of statements in the last week, including the offer of a £500,000 reward for the conviction and return of jewels worth at least 10 per cent of their value.
Mr Virag said: “He was a lone wolf, but also a Spider-Man, as it was quite a mission for him to climb up to the roof and descend from there to the second floor before breaking into the entrance.
“There are footprints on the roof that I have seen. A lot of the neighbourhood is under construction and some of the properties are for sale. There is a large construction site on the garden side of the home and the thief highly likely came through that property,” he told the Daily Mail Online.
Avenue Road includes homes owned by billionaires and by stars such as singers Robbie Williams and Rihanna and boxer Anthony Joshua.
