Soho Waiters Race

The famous Soho waiters’ race

ST Anne’s Gardens was filled with dogs in top hats, tussling police officers and firefighters as well as a life-size model of the Queen on Sunday for the annual Soho Village Fête.

The main event – the historic waiters’ race – was won by Endri from Dean Street Townhouse who snatched first prize for a second year in a row.

Newcomer Oscar from the Queen’s Head was placed fourth, complete with his own outfit of the Queen to secure the “best dressed” award.

Soho George and MP Nickie Aiken attended the festivities, as well as the Westminster’s Lord Mayor Hamza Taouzzale.

Andy MacKay of Roxy Music was there in support of his son Percy’s band, The New Sticky, as was journalist Robert Peston. There were performances from Soho drag queens EbbonKnee and Minnie Diamond, with Baga Chipz, of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, making an appearance in the crowd. And Elvis too!

The Soho Society’s Lucy Haine said: “It was a brilliant day, as usual.

“We’re still totalling out the money, which will be put towards supporting the campaigning work of the Soho Society. We had a lot of support from volunteers, and we’re always looking for new people to join in and help organise so feel free to get in touch.

“It’s a great way to meet people in the Soho area.”
