Taking traffic away because of accidents is a knee-jerk response

• IT seems to me to be an unwise and knee-jerk reaction to recent very sad traffic accidents to take traffic away from Oxford Street.

As well as polluting the residential accommodation in nearby streets one has only to look at other big cities without cars of buses in their main streets to see that it turns these areas into urban deserts and increases them as haunts for crime and disorder.

The removal of the cctv cameras in Oxford Street makes the proposal even more undesirable. I urge all those who are calling for this radical proposal to go and see Bristol.
