ARSENAL fans are expecting a busy summer in the transfer market as the club look to land their first Premier League title in more than 20 years.
The Gunners hierarchy have long been plotting the final puzzle pieces needed to finally leapfrog the juggernaut that is Manchester City after back-to-back second-place finishes.
Despite being the second highest scorers in the top-flight last season the position Arsenal fans most want to see addressed is the attack.
And unsurprisingly the rumour mill has responded by pitching in with a whole host of potential targets, including Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee.
The north Londoners are also thought to be searching for some more defensive cover at the back, a midfielder and a goalkeeper amid growing reports that Aaron Ramsdale will be leaving the club this summer.
One player excited Gooners are desperate to see more of is teenage sensation Ethan Nwaneri.
The highly-rated midfielder netted his 14th goal in 27 England Under-17s caps on Monday night when he scored the third and final goal in the Young Lions’ 3-1 victory over Spain.
It was his second goal in three outings at the 2024 UEFA European Under-17s Championships, which are currently being held in Cyprus. The 17-year-old also unleashed a screamer against France in England’s opening match, cutting in from the right before producing a beautiful curling shot past the keeper from outside the area to score the pick of the goals in a 4-0 win.
For now, Nwaneri’s sole focus will be on England’s quarter-final showdown against Italy tonight (Thursday).
One thing for sure is that his performances while on international duty are only adding to Nwaneri’s meteoric rise.
He made history back in September 2022 when, aged only 15 years and 181 days, he became the youngest player in Premier League history to feature in a top-flight match when he came on as a substitute in Arsenal’s 3-0 victory at Brentford.
Since then he has continued his first-team development, and last season also featured off the bench in Arsenal’s 6-0 league win at West Ham.
In March Nwaneri penned his first professional contract with Arsenal, describing the moment as “a dream come true”.
Sharing his goals going forward, the academy graduate, who joined the Gunners when he was nine years old, added: “I want to keep pushing towards the first-team, gain as much experience as I can from the players in the first-team, and score as many goals as I can in whatever game I’m playing in and just keep pushing. I’m just going to keep working and do my best when I get opportunities given.”
