The NHS does use hypnotherapy

Dr John Elliotson
• I ENJOYED the review of Wendy Moore’s book on Dr Elliotson (Trance encounter, June 22), but would like to dispute the idea that hypnotherapy is not officially sanctioned by the NHS.
I am a hypnotherapist and worked in this capacity for 10 years in St Mary’s Hospital. I know that many of my colleagues do the same and also work in medical practices.
I also have an independent provider number which enables NHS doctors to make referrals to me. I think this shows that the NHS not only sanctions hypnotherapy but also actively uses it.
