Elderly

‘We are not isolated or lonely, and we feel valued by our social network’

• IT is great that Abi Wood, CEO of Age Concern, is working with the mayor to make London age-friendly but there is some stereotyping under the surface of her letter, (We want the mayor’s age-friendly action plan to have an impact, November 24).

We have state pensions and work pensions, all of which increased by 10 per cent in April. Between us we received £500 as a winter fuel payment and have minimal housing costs.

We get free travel throughout London, free prescriptions and free access to numerous museums and galleries all over they city, and our GP surgery has been supporting us to have vaccinations against Covid, flu, shingles and pneumonia. We are not isolated or lonely, and we feel valued by our social network.

But, of course, there is a scandal here. It really is time political parties had the courage to transfer some of our wealth to those on low incomes and means-tested benefits but, then, we vote and they, on the whole, don’t.
