Why are they bringing the city to a standstill?

Berwick Street, ‘where no work is being done but the road is closed anyway’
• THE number of roads closed – often with no work being done – is at a point where navigating around Westminster has become almost impossible.
There are constant road closures by firms that are not working and not properly coordinated.
It is unbelievable that Westminster City Council have ignored such an obvious problem for so long.
If the council is to give permission to dig up the roads then any works should be done in a timely manner.
Utility firms are constantly closing roads and leaving work unfinished or not even started. Given how utterly congested London is already it seems odd neither the city council nor the London mayor’s office has resolved this issue.
So much of the traffic in London could be avoided by simply ensuring that when road works are started they’re finished quickly, properly coordinated, and properly signposted, with the work being done from the time that the roads are closed, not five days later.
Having multiple works being done only streets apart with roads being closed for a week, despite work only being done for a day, is bringing the city to a standstill.
Many of these firms make vast sums of money and yet ordinary drivers are expected to foot the bill when they cause congestion.
It’s not just highways, it’s the council and the mayor’s office that need to work together to come to some sort of solution; because something has to be done.
