Why don’t people now take pride in clean windows?

• I TRAVEL around London with the help of my wonderful travel pass and it brings back such memories.
I was born in London in 1935 before the awful war started. I remember Mum or Dad would clean our windows and put up clean curtains, even though a few panes were replaced with cardboard as they had been blown out by bomb blast.
Sometimes Mum would have to take the curtains down to fold them neatly and take them to Mr Page at the pawn shop to lend Mum some money so we could eat. We had to have blackout blinds up anyway.
As I travel around I wonder why is it now that nobody has pride in their windows?
I still do the same as Mum and Dad did and keep windows clean and nice nets, I do see a few but not many, I am so sad because of this.
We do a lot at Age UK for elderly people. I thought what a wonderful thing it would be for this as a service to the elderly.
I’m now 82 but still try very hard to always keep my windows nice, just like Mum and Dad did.
