Council cuts must be seen in the context of the £6m mound fiasco

The £6million Marble Arch Mound
• THE scale of the £6million Marble Arch Mound financial mismanagement has now come into sharp focus as Westminster City Council unveils its budget for the next financial year.
As a direct result of the Conservatives’ financial blunders:
— Council rents are going up £5 a week, bringing in £3million extra income.
— Parking charges are going up, too, raising £1million extra income.
— Adult social services are being cut by £500,000.
— And Mayfair library is under threat of closure to save £200,000 a year rent.
The reason rents and parking charges are going up is to make up for the £6million Conservatives wasted on the mound.
These increased charges, social service cuts and library closures affect everyone in Westminster, whether you live in Paddington or Pimlico, whether you are rich or poor, young or old.
The £6million mound sums up everything that is wrong about Boris Johnson’s Westminster Council.
On May 5 you will have the opportunity to vote for change and a new start with a Labour council dedicated to putting residents first.
