Exhibition includes workshop with Helen Pointer and talk with Martin Rowson

DOWNRIGHT disrespectful cartoons from more than 40 leading professional artists are going on display at Charing Cross Library.

The Professional Cartoonists’ Organisation (PCO) exhibition, on until September 23, includes a panel talk with Martin Rowson, Chris Burke, Andy Davey, Rebecca Hendin and John Roberts – who creates caricatures live.

The talk is free but organisers recommend booking one of the limited places on the Westminster Libraries website.

Cartoons from the The Guardian, The Independent and Private Eye will be display and signed originals and prints will be on sale.

The PCO’s chairman, Clive Goddard, said: “No, it’s ‘Not the National Portrait Gallery’ but it is right on its doorstep in a brand new gallery space at Charing Cross Library.

“It is an exhibition full of irreverent, funny and, in some cases, downright disrespectful caricatures and cartoons, all poking fun at the singularly human business of having a likeness made.”

The PCO was formed in 2006 to represent and promote British cartoon art.

On Sunday September 16, from 2pm, there will also be an introduction to caricature workshop, suitable for all ages, with Helen Pointer.

NOT the National Portrait Gallery is at Charing Cross Library, 4 Charing Cross Road, WC2H 0HF.
