• LIKE millions of others I stood in awed reverence for our beloved Charles III’s first Christmas message to the nation.

To be honest I missed his mother’s annual tap-dancing routine and wished that he could have livened things up a bit, perhaps with a card trick or two or even a dirty joke.

But he is our monarch, in all his radiant glory, and we must forgive these little failings, no matter how disappointing.
