Chancellor Rishi Sunak warned people can’t afford food

A PROTEST against the “deepest cost of living crisis for generations” was held outside parliament as the chancellor unveiled the mini-budget.

Benefit claimants, pensioners and those on low wages held replicas of the Rishi Sunak red budget box with the message “We can’t afford to live”.

They handed out copies of household budgets to show the impossible choices people are facing between “heating or eating”.

One minimum-wage worker said they were still left with a shortfall of £100 even with an absolute minimum monthly expenditure for essential bills. A disabled benefit is over budget by £109.95.

Head of Unite Community Liane Groves said: “No one in this country should have to choose between ‘heating or eating’ but for many on low incomes that is the reality they’re facing.”
