‘It is not surprising that trips on Santander bikes are at their lowest levels in recent times’

• I READ your “cycling special” sections in the August 18 edition as a regular Santander bike rider.

It is quite clear to me the annual and daily use fees are too high in comparison to having your own bike during a #costoflivingcrisis and other hiring schemes available now.

Moreover the assumption that bike hire is equivalent to a bus journey does not hold. This is because the cost of cycling is much lower than this for many cyclists. So it is not surprising that trips on Santander bikes are at their lowest levels in recent times.

It’s time Transport for London began dropping the price of Santander bike hire at next annual Greater London Authority budget 2024/25 to at least regain its historic daily and annual usage while continuing its expansion further out from central London.
