‘The Regent’s Park gardeners downed tools last month and were due to strike again’

• SUCH good news GMB union is hailing a victory with its members employed as Regent’s Park gardeners winning a dispute after a historic strike.

Union workers, employed by private contractor Idverde, are reported to have agreed to accept new pay rates which give them parity with workers in other Royal Parks.

The Regent’s Park gardeners downed tools last month and were due to strike again. GMB said the firm agreed to pay them the same rates and back-date their pay.

The union said all they were asking for was the same pay as the workers in the other parks. The gardeners are highly skilled, qualified, and have won many awards over the years.
