“THIS is the bit where we were cut off last time,” snaps Lana Del Rey as she heads to the final songs of her Hyde Park set, a reference to her power-off moment at Glastonbury which ensured she came away from Worthy Farm with more headlines than the headliners.

Things shut down in the park at 10.30pm sharp but, despite the aura of a wandering sunset trance, this time it all runs like clockwork.

It’s an accomplishment to create the mystique that anything might happen from what is actually a polished show of props, swings and dancers.

She’s nine albums deep with the release of her latest record but the Lana clique nevertheless can sing every word back to her. She rewarded their efforts – a thousand women of indeterminate ages in white dresses and cowboy boots – by tracing back her steps to her breakthrough album, Born To Die, and peppering this 90 minutes with all the poppier favourites.

Her vaping spoilt princess routine may tire some, but it’s true there aren’t many acts who sound like her in this mood and you can see how new waves of teenage fans are seduced and see her as an auteur for something.

Of course, it all ended with Video Games, the song even the passing trade know for her, but she had already sparkled with her collection of doleful but soulful collection of searching ballads.
