ARSENAL boss Renée Slegers is doing her best to remain upbeat ahead of this Sunday’s trip to Manchester City.
The Gunners travel north trailing leaders Chelsea by 10 points in the Women’s Super League after losing 1-0 to the Blues at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Substitute Guro Reiten scored the winner from the penalty spot late on after Lauren James was brought down by Kim Little. The defeat was compounded for the visitors when Katie McCabe was shown two yellow cards after the penalty was awarded and sent off for dissent.
“There are 10 points now between us, and that’s going to be a much bigger mountain to climb, we are very aware of that,” said Slegers. “But we had our slips at the start of the season. You never know when other teams are going to slip.
“We knew it was important for us if we wanted to keep sparks in the title race to win [against Chelsea], and we didn’t do that. But you never know what the future holds.”
