Mick Clarke looks on as Aicha Less signs up
CITY councillors signed a new charter to “end rough sleeping once and for all”.
Westminster Labour leader Adam Hug and deputy leader Aicha Less put their names to a pledge with Mick Clarke, the chief executive of homelessness charity The Passage.
It means the council has a greater focus to get rough sleepers off the streets and into safe accommodation away from violence, abuse, theft and discrimination.
Cllr Hug said: “The charter’s pledges reinforce our dedication to ensure that people on the streets are safe from harm and we remain committed to ending rough sleeping in Westminster.”
The Labour administration has in the past been criticised by Conservative opposition for making grand statements about effecting change.
Mr Clarke said: “The Passage’s vision is of a society where street homelessness no longer exists and where everyone has a place to call home; we hope London will see this charter as a call to action and, in doing so, work together to achieve this vision.”
