Dan Carrier's movies news: Paddington fundraiser; Canadian Film Festival; Heath hermit Harry
Thursday, 8th June 2017 — By Dan Carrier

ONE of my favourite film clubs is hosting a special event in early July, showing a wonderful film and raising funds for Brookfield School in Highgate Newtown at the same time. The Dartmouth Park Film Club is moving from its regular spot at the Highgate Civic and Cultural Centre in Croftdown Road to the Brookfield School hall next door to screen the 2014 hit Paddington – and all funds taken will go to the school. The event, on Thursday, July 6, includes an appearance by the film’s director of photography John Sorapure, who lives locally. Organiser Lizze Gillet said: “There will be popcorn. And ice creams. And lots of kids – the event is not in our regular venue as we’re hoping for a large number of families. Please come along and enjoy the film, learn about how it was made, and celebrate the second year of DPFC events.”
• I write this before our readers have put their cross next to a name and placed their ballot paper in a box – so it’s safe to say possibly the coolest PM in the English-speaking world still hails from Canada – and you can come and celebrate all things from north North America at the Curzon Soho’s special Canadian Film Festival, running between June 15 and 18 at the cinema in Shaftesbury Avenue. • Fancy a bit of star spotting? I hear the world premiere of Hampstead, the film based on the life of Heath hermit Harry Hallowes, is talking place on Wednesday at the Hampstead Everyman.
