Lifesize take on ‘do not pass go' classic comes to London

A TRADITIONAL board game has been reimagined as the latest interactive experience in the capital, and this time it’s lifesize.
Monopoly Lifesize rolled out the red carpet in Tottenham Court Road on Monday night for its grand opening.
The three-storey attraction, where the Paperchase outlet used to be, is packed full with a “Top Hat” bar and restaurant, and the four game rooms.
For 70 minutes players can lose themselves in the world of Monopoly, picking one of the boards to play on, and taking part in themed challenges to win property, earn cash, and beat other teams.
Every turn players roll the dice to see where their team will go next. Then, depending on the square you land on, the team has to complete a different task.
At the phone company (traditionally known as the electric company), players will find themselves connecting phone calls on a giant switchboard while the clock counts down.
At Marlborough Station, it’s time to shovel coal into a fake furnace.
Teams are led around their board by mascots – actors – who bring the well-known pieces to life.
You could be guided by a giant iron, a battleship or Scottie the dog to name a few. At the end of the game, scores flash up on a ticker-tape and the winning team is crowned. On their website the organisers describe the experience as “frenetic, exhilarating, and exasperating” and they’re not wrong.
It’s a whirlwind ride of confusing fun and a race to the finish.
