THE Northumberland Lions can take great pride in their winning run in the Chalk Farm Pool League after proving on Monday night there is more than one way to skin a cat.

Trailing 4-2 away to Cousins Patriots, the Lions clawed their way back into the Division One clash, thanks to Tony Stevens and Aaron Gourlay, who sank the black in their doubles match to make it 4-3.

Shaun Pollard then showed great shot selection to level the scores, before Alex Stockl pocketed the all-important ninth and final frame of the evening to seal a 5-4 victory in Holloway.

The tightly-contested showdown was a far cry from how the Lions roared to victory in their previous match, when they mauled the Crown Jewels 8-1 on their home table in King’s Cross.

“In one match, every shot we made seemed to go into the centre of the pocket, while on Monday night we had to really fight hard for every frame,” said Pollard, reflecting on the Lions’ back-to-back wins.

“We’ve got a really tough match away to Maddens Misfits this Monday. It’s going to be difficult to make it three wins in a row, but we’ll certainly give it a go.”
