Quakers rode from Cumbria to Westminster in 13 days 

QUAKERS cycled across the country to Downing Street in protest at “dismantling” of the NHS.

The group cycled a total of 360 miles from Swarthmoor Hall, Cumbria, to No 10 in just 13 days.

Following in the footsteps of founder Margaret Fell, who completed the same trip in 1660 in a pledge to end persecution of the group, they rode through villages, towns and cities.

Quaker Sally Ingram said: “It is in all our interests to have the safety net of a welfare system which we can access without fear of receiving a huge bill. We want to make the invisible visible and the unheard heard.”

Riders carried the stories of those affected by cuts on hundreds of postcards, which will now be presented to MPs later in the year.
